MPOWER Financing got amazing interns in the D.C. office this June. Thank you to all the talent joining MPOWER, which makes the team even more powerful! Every single intern is leading their own project during the summer, and making their amazing goals come true. Read on to learn more about our outstanding interns!
Fernando Barbosa, an M.B.A. candidate at Georgetown University. His main project at MPOWER is building the refinance product. If you ask Fernando what his purpose and career goals are, his answer will be “making finance a means for creating more equal opportunities.” Though it is never easy for an international student to have success in the U.S., Fernando thinks taking care of yourself and visualizing long-term plans can help you learn and succeed in this diverse environment.
Hsiang-Yu Su, a recent Master of Advertising graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is thrilled by the power of content marketing and is working on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain MPOWER customers. But why MPOWER? Su said, “I love how MPOWER stays true to their core values and creates a culture that employees and customers are proud to associate with – it really makes an impression!” Su believes that everyone deserves a life-changing experience and that you mustn’t flinch from any difficulties!
Jenny Lee, originally from Seoul, South Korea, a rising third-year law student pursuing a J.D. at the George Washington University Law School. The project Jenny is working on includes reviewing MPOWER’s policies, identifying potential needs in MPOWER’s compliance program, and supporting ongoing due diligence process. Jenny’s top tip for any international students is, “If there is a will, there is a way.” She believes good opportunities will come to you if you are passionate and hard working in your field.
Michelle Uchitel, currently a student at Virginia Tech pursuing dual B.S. degrees in Business Information Technology and Environmental Informatics. Michelle is an Analytics intern at MPOWER, working with data, and especially using data to model scenarios and inform decision-making processes. She has a great philosophy: “I personally believe in doing one’s part to make the world a better place and that together our small improvements can translate to large, positive impact.”
Saeed Razavi, a D.C.-Metro Area native, a student pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Virginia. He is an Engineering intern, working on optimizing the workflow and aiding the implementation of new technologies at MPOWER. Saeed was really drawn to MPOWER because of its fascinating niche and the mission of making socio-economic mobility borderless.
Swaroop Mahadeva, originally from Bengaluru, the southern part of India. As an international student pursuing an M.B.A. at The George Washington University, he feels welcomed in D.C. He’s also working on completing a project management certificate, and after joining MPOWER he knew he was in the right place to achieve his American dream. Swaroop’s top tip for students in the real business world is, “Making important connections can definitely help and can get you access to the necessary resources that can foster your career development.”
Vishnu Vaibhav Dwivedi, grew up in India, M.B.A. graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He’s using his experience as a business development executive in India as well as his education to help MPOWER as a marketing strategy intern.. His word of advice for Indian students is, “A college degree represents the conclusion of a journey and the start of a new adventure, rather than being a tick mark.”
Yogesh Sawant, currently pursuing his M.S. in Computer Science at the State University of New York at Buffalo. As an international student, he was impressed by MPOWER’s mission to help people from around the world get an education. Yogesh was happy to join MPOWER because “MPOWER is a data-driven company, and the way MPOWER manages their big data allows me to immerse myself in the magical world of data. Plus, MPOWER gives an equal platform to everyone in the company to present an innovative idea and make a real impact.”
Evan Oberstein, a student at the University of Oxford. He is interning on the Operations team this summer. Evan believes that education is a leading creator for social mobility, and that people should not be prevented from having that access based on where they are from or their financial history. Evan was so excited when he learned about MPOWER and he’s ready to contribute his statistics skills and make meaningful social action!
If you share some common ground with these amazing interns and with MPOWER, let’s build up the connection and keep the conversation going! The MPOWER team very much appreciates any suggestions and would love to discuss any future possibilities with all of these amazing talents.
